Follow the gravel road until it becomes fresh blacktop. Veer into the woods, skirt around the new fence, continue down the fading road.
You’re nearly there.
Now turn into the field.
It unfolds before you suddenly. Too big to see across. There’s a grassy two track matted through the middle. Traverse the circumference and you’ll have gone two miles.
The field is dotted with islands of tree clusters, each with their own character.
I’ve seen wild turkeys, deer, and a coyote. But never a person.
It’s someone’s field. There are several deer blinds among the trees. A newly-carved 4x4 drivable road cuts out the back.
The field is one of my favorite places.
